Volunteer Management and Volunteer Motivation One

Hi Everyone,

Each week you’ll read a quick read idea on volunteer management, volunteer recruitment or volunteer recognition. So here’s your weekly quick read idea on:

VOLUNTEER MOTIVATION NUMBER ONE

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be taking a quick look at the main types of motivations given by people for becoming volunteers. See how they fit for you and your volunteers in volunteer recruitment.

Let’s start with the number one motivation given by people for volunteering – have a guess!

Yes it is ALTRUISM.

People with the desire to help others and ‘do good’ have a strong sense of social responsibility. They most commonly express ‘helping others’ or ‘helping the community’ as their major volunteering motivation.

You can attract these people by marketing to them and offering them the opportunity to really make a difference in the lives of others and their community.

Another main volunteer motivation for you next week.
